वै. औ. अ. प.-भारतीय पेट्रोलियम संस्‍थान, देहरादून,(सी. एस. आइ. आर-आइ आइ पी) वैज्ञानिक तथा औद्योगिक अनुसंधान परिषद (सी एस आइ आर) की संघटक प्रयोगशालाओं में से एक है। 1960 में स्‍थापित यह संस्‍थान, हाइड्रोकार्बन तथा संबंधित उद्योग के अध:प्रवाह क्ष्‍ेात्र में अनुसंधान एवं विकास के बहुविषयी क्षेत्रों के प्रति समर्पित है। संस्‍थान में समर्पित, अनुभवी एवं योग्‍य कर्मचारी कार्यरत है और यह व़ृहत नवोन्‍नत अनुसंधान-विकास सुविधाओं व पायलट संयंत्रों से परिपूर्ण है।

संस्‍थान में पेट्रोलियम परिष्‍करण, प्राक़ृतिक गैस, वैकल्पिक ईंधनों, पेट्रोरसायनों, अंतर्दहन इंजनों तथा औद्योगिक व घरेलू दहन में पेट्रोलियम उत्‍पादों का उपयोग–इन क्षेत्रों पर अनुसंधान-विकास कार्य संचालित किया जाता है। संस्‍थान पेट्रोलियम परिष्‍करण एवं संबंधित उद्योग को तकनीकी एवं वैश्‍लेषिक सेवाओं के साथ-साथ अभिनव, नवोन्‍नत प्रौद्योगिकियों व उत्‍पादों संबंधित प्रौद्योगिकी हस्‍तांतरण भी सुलभ कराता है। ‍परिष्‍करण उद्योग, पेट्रोरासायनिक संयंत्रों, ऑटोमोटिव क्ष्‍ेात्र, विद्युत संयंत्रों तथा अन्‍य संबंधित उपयोगकर्ता उद्योगों के तकनीकी कार्मिकों के लिए प्रशिक्ष‍ण कार्यक्रमों के संचालन में संस्‍थान ने अपनी अग्रणी भूमिका बनाए रखी है।
