पूर्वोत्तर सीमा रेल भारत संघ के दस राज्यों जैसेः अरूणाचल प्रदेश, बिहार, मणिपुर, मेघालय, मिजोरम, नागालैंड, सिक्किम, त्रिपुरा और पश्चिम बंगाल की उत्कृष्ट सेवा कर रही है। इसके साथ ही यह रेल हिमालय स्थित नेपाल और भूटान के लिए रेल शीर्ष के रूप में भी कार्य करती है तथा बंगलादेश रेल के साथ अंतरबदल सुविधा भी प्रदान करती है।
